About GIF Splitter

GIF Splitter turns an animated GIF into useful still images. It is designed for choosing one moment, inspecting an animation or saving its entire frame sequence.

What you can do

Open a local GIF, view each decoded frame and its timing, and save a single PNG. You can also select a few frames or download the complete sequence in a ZIP. Exported images use the original canvas size, with no added watermark.

The tool rebuilds full frames from the GIF's partial image updates. This makes the PNGs suitable for reviewing animation steps, selecting reference images or preparing assets for another editor. Use files you have permission to work with.

Why processing stays local

GIF decoding, PNG encoding and ZIP creation run on your device. No account or file-upload service is required, and your original GIF is not modified. Available memory and device performance affect the animations your browser can handle.

Files are limited to 30 MB and 1,000 frames, with additional decoded-pixel safeguards. Each ZIP is limited to 128 MB of PNG data. A small compressed GIF can still require substantial memory when expanded.

A clear set of capabilities

This site accepts GIFs and produces PNG images or ZIP archives. It does not edit frames, extract video, or build a new animation. PNG export cannot recover detail that was already missing from the GIF.
